Fleming Middle
7th Grade Math
I have one rule

“BE KIND”

Let your speech and actions be kind.

Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.

Be kind. Always.
Room Procedures
-
Enter the room silently.
-
If you want to visit, visit in the hall.
-
Be in your seat though when the bell rings or you are tardy.
-
-
Warm-up and agenda
-
Students silently do the warm-up that is on the screen. This is review.
-
The agenda is on the front whiteboard. The agenda will let students know what will be due each day.
-
When students are finished they will read silently.
-
Mr. Kee will then go over the warm-up. This is a time for students who didn’t understand to ask questions.
-
-
Check last assignment
-
After the assignment is corrected Mr. Kee will answer students’ questions.
-
Warm-up and last assignment should take about 10-15 minutes.
-
-
New concept presented
-
Direct Instruction -- Students will take notes in their math notebook.
-
Students then move towards independence by doing example problems in class.
-
This will take about 15-20 minutes.
-
-
Assignment
-
For the rest of the period students will work on the assignment. This is homework if not finished.
-
Students are expected to show their work.
-
Students will circle or box their answers to visually separate them from the rest of their work.
-
If a student finishes early they may check their work with someone near them who is also finished.
-
Students may also silently read or work on another class assignment if they have it with them.
-
Worksheets are generally corrected the next day.
-
-
If students are absent they need to turn in finished work in the absent/redo box for their class period.
-
Test correction procedure
-
Students will score their own test initially. Research on students scoring their own tests.
-
Students have one week to complete test corrections. The week begins on the day that your graded test is handed back to you.
-
Students may get help from their classmates, parents, or teacher ( If a student needs to come in before school please ask Mr. Kee for a hall pass).
-
Students must do the following on a separate sheet of paper for the incorrect problems on the test:
-
Number the problem that you missed
-
Write at least two complete sentences
-
explaining what your error was and
-
what you need to do to correct it.
-
-
Show all work to correct the problem or question and include the right answer
-
Example sentences #1 I made a simple multiplication mistake. I wrote that 6x4 was 48. 6x4=24
-
Example sentences #2 When dividing fractions I forgot to change the divide to multiply. I also forgot to flip the second fraction. 1/2 ÷ 3/4 = 1/2 ⋅ 4/3 = 4/6 = 2/3
-
-
You can earn as much as half of the missed points back.
-
-
Students need to turn in redone work in the absent/redo box for their class.
-
-
A paper without a complete heading- name, period, date - is put in the black hole.
-
If a student finds their paper in the black hole, they need to put the heading on the paper and turn it in the absent/redo box.
-
-
To get help, students need to:
-
Listen carefully to the instructions when Mr. Kee gives them.
-
Check their math notebook.
-
Raise their hand and Mr. Kee will help.
-
If Mr. Kee is busy helping someone, go ahead and quietly ask another student nearby.
-
-
No food in the classroom.
-
When Mr. Kee wants the class’s attention he will generally say “back to me”, expecting them to look at him, and listen for his instruction.
-
End of period dismissal is signaled by Mr. Kee, and not by the clock or alarm.
-
Students may sharpen their pencil when Mr. Kee or another student is not talking to the whole class.
-
Students can get a drink or use the bathroom at any time between classes.
-
Ask permission to leave the classroom.
-
Students are too old to tattle, but please do tell Mr. Kee if they are hurt, or someone needs help.
-
If a student feels like they are going to vomit:
-
Go directly to the bathroom even if Mr. Kee is speaking to the class.
-
-
As planned, when the fire alarm rings, students will quietly proceed to the front of the school by the fence.
-
When someone knocks at the door or comes in the room, students need to continue working.
-
Cupboards, drawers, closet, and other teacher areas are Mr. Kee's property.
